Permitted Software

A Significant Change in Procedure

All computers managed by SMPH Informatics and Information Technology (IIT) at the department level are part of a HIPAA-compliant network, which means all software, including research tools, are subject to a cybersecurity evaluation and approval before installation. This means the previous practice of impromptu evaluations of software is no longer allowed.

The fastest method to submit your own request is to visit the the new portal:

SMPH Cybersecurity Portal

In the above portal, click Submit a Standard Request then select Risk Assessment, which are directed to Cybersecurity. There, you can specify the kind of data that the requested software collects, how, if any, data will be shared. You may also add other details, such as deadlines, to emphasize how important the software is for your research. The time it takes to fulfill a request varies. User Support Services has no influence in the decision or pace of Cybersecurity evaluations.

For further questions, please see the brief FAQ portion at the top of the form (linked above).

In your submission, feel free to add or mention Psychiatry IT Staff by name so that Cybersecurity can keep us appraised of any potentially approved software.
