Zoom for Mac Vulnerability Mitigated

Hi All,

If you have never used Zoom for Mac, you can disregard this message.

Both Apple and Zoom have now taken steps to fix the Zoom for Mac vulnerability I mentioned previously.  Apple has reportedly issued a patch that requires no user intervention and installs automatically.  Although I could not find an official statement from Apple directly, here is a report from TechCrunch asserting that this is the case.

This is good news, as it suggests that the problem has been mitigated by Apple directly.

Additionally, Zoom has released an updated version of their Mac Desktop application that also fixes the problem.  Here are the details of the latest release.

If you install this version of Zoom on your Mac, you should be safe from the camera vulnerability.  To check which version you have, simply open Zoom and look at the version at the bottom (image below).  If you look in the parentheses and see 53932.0709, then you are up to date (note the last four digits 0709 indicate the month and day of release — 07-09, or July 9th).

To get the latest version of Zoom, you have two options.

1. Go to https://zoom.us/download and download Zoom Client for Meetings and run the installer

2. If you already have Zoom installed, open it and click zoom.us in your top menu bar and select Check for Updates, as shown here:

In sum, if you use Zoom, please update to the latest version to ensure you are safe from the vulnerability.
